The University of Pittsburgh’s Child Welfare and Research Programs recently concluded a five-year workforce development project in August of 2023. Funded by the National Child Welfare Workforce Institute the University of Pittsburgh was one of seven Workforce Excellence sites across the country.
In partnership with the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, the School of Social Work provided fellowship opportunities to prepare MSW students for a career in public child welfare with a focus on anti-racist practice with families and communities. Participants engaged in child welfare internships, foundational child welfare training, focused advising and mentorship, and educational enrichment activities. Opportunities to join agency work groups targeting organizational change strategies provided Fellows with exposure to a culture of continuous improvement.
