Fredrika Anggelina Opur is a PhD student at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Social Work. She earned her bachelor’s degree in political and social science from Padjadjaran University, Indonesia, and her MSW from Michigan State University. She has dedicated her career to World Vision Indonesia as a child sponsorship management project coordinator in rural Papua, Indonesia. In this role, she managed a community development project focused on promoting children's rights and improving access to education, healthcare, and child protection services. She also organized child-friendly spaces, facilitated the establishment of a child forum organization to amplify youth voices, and collaborated with local leaders to advocate for and secure birth certificates. Prior to her doctoral studies, she rejoined World Vision Indonesia as part of the emergency response team for the West Java earthquake, where she coordinated a cash voucher assistance project for community economic recovery.
Fredrika's research interests focus on youth-positive development, leadership, civic engagement, and the role of neighborhoods on youth well-being. She is also passionate about how a strength-based approach and visual participatory methods (photography, filmmaking, and community mapping) could contribute to youth development and promote engagement. Her faculty mentor is Dr. Jaime Booth.
