Welcome to 2024 PhD students!

Five new students will be starting the Pitt School of Social Work this fall:

Ruijie Ma – Ruijie is interested in child maltreatment prevention and child welfare policy evaluation with a focus on effecting structural change for marginalized children and low-income families. She will be working with Dr. Moon.

Sam Murphy – Sam is interested in understanding the predictors of recovery, rehabilitation, and quality of life in adults and transition age youth experiencing psychosis with the goal of implementing and evaluating interventions to better promote recovery from psychosis and severe mental illness. He will be working with Dr. Eack.

Shannon Pagdon – Shannon is interested in early psychosis, specifically stigma, peer support, diagnostic criteria, and coercion and carceral practices in response to psychosis. She will be working with Dr. Nev Jones.

Shameka Sparrow – Shameka is interested in the intersections of traumatic stress, social determinants of health, and spirituality as a healing factor for African American and African Diasporic women. She will be working with Dr. Conner.

Qingqing Yin – Qingqing is interested in building community resilience to promote health care services among vulnerable aging populations. She will be working with Dr. Tang.
