ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Dr. Yodit Betru holds a doctorate in clinical social work from the University of Pennsylvania and earned MSW and BA degrees from the University of Oklahoma. She is currently the director of the MSW program at the University of Pittsburgh, where she is a clinical assistant professor. As an educator, Yodit trains students on critical issues that impact identity and community, including race, gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity expression. Her extensive clinical experience — including work in schools, shelters, jails, public child welfare programs, and community and private practice settings — provides the foundation for Yodit’s research and work. Her expertise includes trauma-informed treatments, race-conscious practices, and homelessness. Yodit frequently speaks and publishes on these issues at national conferences, schools, and universities. Her trauma-informed curriculum for case managers has been used extensively across the United States to inform practice, policies, and legislation. As a committed community advocate,

Yodit serves on the board of directors for local community agencies. She also continues to see individuals and families for therapy in a private practice setting to keep abreast of contemporary issues in practice.
