With sadness, we share that Jim McDonald, a Pittsburgh icon of nonprofit and philanthropic passion and commitment, has passed away. After battling Ideopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis for eight years, Jim received a double lung transplant and was valiant in his recovery. While the transplant was successful, subsequent complications of kidney failure and a stroke conspired to overwhelm his recovery. He died peacefully on January 22, 2025.
James (Jim) McDonald was the retired managing director for global philanthropy at BNYMellon and, previously, developer and manager of the employee assistance program for Mellon Bank. In his last position, he was responsible for leading the successful execution of BNYMellon’s global philanthropic programs, providing leadership, support, and counsel to executives, business managers, colleagues, and community organizations around the world to advance the company’s corporate social responsibility and charitable goals. In addition, he served as director of the BNYMellon Foundation and president of the BNYMellon Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Read more.
