Current job description
The Commission and its Executive Director also serve as an extension of the Governor’s office in their respective communities and are responsible for communicating the priorities and accomplishments of the Governor and his Administration. This effort seeks to spread awareness and increase access to programs and services provided by the Commonwealth that benefit everyday Pennsylvanians.
Who inspires you in your work?
My family and the community.
What is your biggest professional accomplishment?
I am currently enrolled in a doctoral program, an accomplishment I did not know I could achieve. Another remarkable one was a study-abroad trip to Cuba with CRSP. That trip truly changed my life and perspective.
How has the social work education you received at Pitt helped you in your career?
It provided me with an immense box of tools and connections. Through the fellowship opportunities and doing my practicum, I used the knowledge provided in the classroom and applied it in my various roles since graduation.
What is the most significant thing you learned at the Pitt SSW?
A social worker is versatile, and the opportunities are endless.
What motivated you to pursue a degree in social work?
I was a volunteer with CASA and as time went on I learned about the education avenues and as I was leaving the military I applied for Pitt's program.
What's your favorite memory of the Pitt SSW?
It's hard to pick one so I will share two. Community Engagement Fellowship and the various seminars and guest speakers. Study abroad opportunity to Cuba with CRSP. It truly allowed me to understand how social work can be practiced internationally and the importance of history.
How much do you rely upon your Pitt SSW network in your work today?
It has helped me understand various items about organizations, and I've also reached out to professors on current topics and best practices as I have taught a few courses as well in the COSA program,
What advice would you have for young Pitt SSW alumni?
Ensure to NETWORK, NETWORK, and NETWORK, and do not put limits on yourself. Utilize the information provided in your books because it will truly benefit your social work practice for the long term.
