Survivor Link AmeriCorps donation drive for the Open Door, now through Feb 16th!

Pitt’s Survivor Link Cohort is partnering with The Open Door, a local agency that serves people experiencing chronic homelessness, to run a donation drive in honor of AmeriCorps’ MLK Day of Service. There are donation boxes in the Social Work Main Office, 2117 Cathedral, as well as the student social work lounge on the 23rd floor between now and February 16th.

Donation Wishlist:

  • Food - anything shelf-stable, including pantry basics such as oil and spices
  • Personal hygiene items - everything! Menstrual items, tissues, hair care – including for textured hair, dental care, deodorant, razors, makeup, etc.
  • Bathroom items - bath towels, toilet paper, toilet brushes & cleaner, shower curtains & liners, etc.
  • Cleaning materials - everything! Paper towels, trash bags, bleach & other cleaning liquids/sprays, sponges, mops, brooms, etc.
  • First aid & basic medical items 
  • Laundry items - laundry detergent, dryer sheets, fabric softener, laundry bags
  • Kitchen items - utensils, plates, cups, pots & pans, etc.  
  • Batteries
  • Bedding - sheets, blankets (full + queen sizes), pillows
  • New slippers, socks, robes, and undergarments for adults 
  • Outerwear for adults, including coats, ponchos, hats, and gloves
  • Adult backpacks 
  • Hand warmers
  • Hand sanitizer 
  • Bottled water

We will gladly accept anything new or in good condition that could be useful for someone transitioning from chronic homelessness to a home with minimal goods and resources.
